Red Lettuce (Lollo Rosso)

AKIL EXPORTS

Red Lettuce (Lollo Rosso lettuce)

Red leaf lettuce is a type of "leaf lettuce" which means it has crisp leaves loosely attached to a stalk, rather than the tightly attached leaves of romaine lettuce.  Very similar to green Leaf Lettuce except with a deep red tint to the edges of the leaves.  It's tender and perfect for salads because of its mild flavor.
Red leaf lettuce contains a host of nutrients like Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin K, B Vitamins, and minerals.
A non-hearting loose-leaf lettuce, Lollo Rosso has fringed and crinkled
leaves that are tinged deep red at their ends, with a fairly tender, yet crisp texture. The depth of colour varies with each variety. It contains the antioxidant quercetin, which is believed to reduce the risk of heart disease.

How to keep greens fresh:

    Lollo Rosso
  • Do not, we repeat, DO NOT store greens on the counter top un-refrigerated, or just throw them on a shelf in the fridge!  They will surely wilt and go bad quickly.

  • DO wrap lettuce or greens in a dry paper towel and place in plastic bag or airtight container in the fridge.  The paper towel will absorb any excess moisture that makes the lettuce rot and will keep it fresher for much longer.

  • Here is another plastic-free way to store greens in the fridge crisper drawer, lined with dish towels.
How to revive wilted greens:
If your greens DO start to wilt, here’s a simple, easy way to revive them…
  • Fill a large bowl with cold water and ice cubes and immerse the greens in the water for several minutes.
  • Remove the greens from the bowl and they will be perked up and crisp again.
  • Drain carefully on towels, or run individual leaves through a salad spinner to remove the moisture.
